“LOMBARDIES” refers to a plural image in which the constitutive values and resources of this great sub-alpine region, firmly implanted in the heart of Europe and open to the Mediterranean, have combined with each other to give life to different and constantly evolving social, economic and productive forms.

Each region has its own strong points. The dimensions of their variety, multiplicity and proximity within a territory filled with history, knowledge and practices are representative, here, of as many distinctive traits of the region’s identity, determining its incomparable uniqueness.
Its different elements of territorial, productive, demographic and entrepreneurial nature, constantly mixing with each other, make Lombardy a region with great potential for growth and development, a region that is able to provide solutions, models and forms of innovation that may be used by an international community.

In its more canonical representations it is described as the first region in Italy due to the many records it holds at the national level and as a region integrated within continental Europe; it has always been among the most dynamic and highly industrialised regions in the continent.

The promoting subject is the Union of the twelve Chambers of Commerce in Lombardy (Unioncamere Lombardia). The space has been organised to provide a representative synthesis of the values of a plurality of communities and of their different physical, social and productive environments, going well beyond boundaries and administrative forms as they are given today, which in any case are currently undergoing a phase of rapid mutation.

In the representation offered here the overall view prevails. Wherever single contributions, activities or projects emerge, these are nothing more than contributions to the construction of an overall image. Expo 2015 represents a unique opportunity. The show is not only a moment for presentation, but also for regeneration and reflection looking at the future and in dialogue with the world.

Exhibition Path

Exhibition Path

The exhibition proposes different visions of Lombardy along an itinerary that begins from its view on the Cardo and on the world and leading to a series of projections examining what is going on today in its territories and among its subjects, looking especially towards the future.

In the lobby a series of data highlights the region’s contributions to the theme of agricultural food production 1.. The “bird’s eye” view conveys an image of a sub-alpine region made up of three prevalent geographic belts: the mountains, the middle ground of large urban settlements and manufacturing, the plain land. Corresponding to each of these, different yet tightly linked economic systems dialogue with similar territories elsewhere in the world.

Finally the exhibition enters “inside” the territories sketched through a few images and symbolic objects which appear and disappear, as in a game to inite viewers to explore, discover and find cross-references 2. 3. 4.. The final part of the itinerary places the region “in the world”, comparing it to the other Italian regions and mainly with the most important European regions 5. 7. 8.. The exhibition concludes with a view on the new resources that are developing, the “breeding ground” for innovation 6. 9..

A Region Projected towards the Future

Lombardy is one of the most vital and attractive regions in Europe. Today global competition is increasingly between large metropolitan aggregates, expanding into vast regional areas in a mix of manufacturing and tertiary industry, universities and research centres, culture and services: territories projected into the world.

A dynamic and productive region

The combination of a vast variety of specialised skills represents Lombardy’s distinctive trait at the European and World levels. The region boasts a significantly high quota of manufacturing plants and a strong presence in High Tech and Medium-High Tech industries.
